Fall Ball 2020-2021

While there continue to be many uncertainties, the league is hoping to offer a fall league for baseball and softball, while still maintaining the safety and well-being of your children and our community.  The current situation is still fluid, but the following information will hopefully provide you with the most current answers to questions you may have about the fall leagues.  Please keep in mind that these conditions could change based on direction from governing bodies or public health officials, field availability, number of players registering and other conditions.  For updates, please see our website www.lwbba.org.

The league is working with neighboring communities and other sources to develop COVID-related safety guidelines and precautions for the fall season that incorporate the latest directives from local, state and federal government, public health officials and other baseball/softball organizations.  As the season nears, we will publish those guidelines and ask you to acknowledge and agree to be bound by them. In the meantime, there is one change we know the league will be making going forward, even post-virus.  The league will no longer be supplying batting helmets to the teams to be shared by the players.  We believe this simply creates too many potential health issues.  Players will be expected to bring their own batting helmets for games and practices.  The league will have a limited supply of helmets to sell at the start of the season, but we urge you to procure one early.

Baseball & Softball:

The level of play will be based on the grade level of the player as of the Fall 2020-21 school year.  The season will start in early to mid-August based on the state’s phased approach.

·       T-Ball & Instructional (PreK-2nd grade) will be combined into one level for the fall.  Teams will play and/or practice 1-2 times a week, on Sunday afternoon/evening and Tuesday and/or Thursday night.  Hitting will be conducted by coach pitch or batting tee based on player’s ability.  We hope to finish this season by September 17.

·       Minors (3rd-4th), Majors (5th-6th) and Pony (7th-8th + some HS freshman) will play at their normal grade levels playing 1-2 games per week with the goal of playing 8-10 games plus any playoffs.  Exact days of the week have yet to be determined but it will probably be a combination of weekday (Monday through Thursday) and weekend games.  We hope to play into mid-October.  The league is aware the Jewish holidays starting at the end of September and will try and accommodate as we have in past seasons with the holidays and Sabbath.

·       K/2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-9 (high school freshmen are eligible to play) will start early August and go through October.  We hope to play an 8-10 game schedule with games on the weekends and practices during the week.  The league is aware of the Jewish holidays starting at the end of September and will try and accommodate as we have in past seasons with the holidays and Sabbath.

We suggest that you register early as we might have to limit the number of players due to field availability and/or safety precautions and may have to close registration for any level without advance notice.

If your family has been financially impacted during this time and you are unsure of your ability to cover the registration fee or the cost of a helmet, please contact the league so we can see what arrangements can be made as we hope to include all players that want to play no matter their financial situation.

The league would also like to extend a debt of gratitude to Sean Marshall, Kira Hoffman and Garland Cooper for helping to produce the weekly instructional videos.  If you have not watched them, they can be found on our You Tube Channel.

Please feel free to contact us at info@lwbba.org with any questions.
